According to Vedic Scripture, food is classified into 3 categories :
Sattvic Food (Food of Goodness)
fresh vegetables, fruits, nuts, beans, milk, ghee, honey, whole grain ……
purify one’s mind, increase calmness, clarity, creativity, vatality, sense of happiness and satisfaction ……
Rajasic Food (Food of Passion)
food that is too sour, salty, pungent, sweet, bitter, astringent, hot, dry ……
increase rajas on the mind, cause distress, sorrow, misery, selfishness, restlessness, anger, greed, lust, aggressiveness, unlimited desires ……
Tamasic Food (Food of Ignorance)
meat, fish, seafood, eggs, wine, alcoholic drink, aged/refined/fermented/frozen/leftover food
cause mental dullness, confusion and disorientation as well as physical lethargy and sluggishness
