Start With Spice and End With Sweet

Our ancestors have stressed on the fact that our meals should be started off with something spicy and sweet dishes should be taken towards the end. The significance of this eating practice is that while spicy things activate the digestive juices and acids and ensure that the digestion process goes on smoothly and efficiently, sweets or carbohydrates pulls down the digestive process. Hence, sweets were always recommended to be taken as a last item.

Wasting

  1. Any left-over food generated on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is distributed on Monday. (I keep the leftovers in our walk-in fridge)
  2. Any left-over food generated on Monday and Tuesday is distributed on Wednesday. And
  3. any left-over food generated on Wednesday and Thursday is distributed on Friday.
  4. In this way all the bases are covered.
  5. Mix together different sabjis and different rices, and the result is a very colorful presentation.
  6.  If we're going to really stop prasadam wasting we'll need every temple to have local cows. That's the Vedic method.
